DIABETIC RETINOPATHY SCREENING / TREATMENT COURSE (DRST)

Diabetic Retinopathy Screening / Treatment Course program is a full day comprehensive, intensive program designed specifically for residents and ophthalmologists performing general ophthalmology or medical retina clinic, under in or outpatient conditions. Course topics will focus on reassessment of risk factors among Serbian population. Natural history and screening recommendations for diabetic retinopathy, nephropathy and neuropathy must be understood since even advanced disease can be asymptomatic. The four WHO cardinal principles for screening are to be implemented in daily routine and cost benefit of screening and early treatment should be recognized by course participants. Too, high / medium / low risk group of patients criteria are to be discussed and identified.
In a second part, some new techniques and well known technologies will be presented via didactic sessions. Clinical examination / Fluorescein angiography / Optical coherent tomography relation is to be cleared. Indications for argon laser photocoagulation as well as the basic manual and outcome assessment in follow up are to be explained and universally agreed. Update in possibilities of medical treatment is going to be presented.

Program outcomes will be evaluated by test examination at the conclusion of the course in a survey. The desired outcome is that the participants would enhance their knowledge and skill level. Appropriate CME credit will be obtained by Medical Academy Belgrade to those participants who pass the test.

Educational Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, participants should be able to obtain skills and knowledge level for appropriate diabetic retinopathy screening and follow up procedure, acceptable to health care system. They have to be able to establish and the modern and adequate system in diabetic retinopathy patient care in their centers and to collaborate among and with vitreoretinal surgeons.

Target Audience
This course is designed for ophthalmologist. Residents are also welcome and highly encouraged to attend.
